Wintershall Dea says finished investment in Nord Stream-2 pipeline

MOSCOW, Feb 24 (PRIME) -- Germany’s Wintershall Dea, one of Russian gas giant Gazprom’s financial partners in the Nord Stream-2 project, has finished its investment in the pipeline having contributed 730 million euros, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

“The Group‘s involvement with the Nord Stream 2 project is limited to the provision of loans together with four major European energy companies (ENGIE, OMV, Shell and Uniper),” it said.

“The company‘s loan payments to Nord Stream 2 AG amount to 730 million euros and were completed prior to the revision of the ‘Countering America‘s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act ‘CAATSA’ Section 232 Public Guidance’ of the U.S. Department of State. Further disbursements are not planned.”

The Nord Stream-2 project envisages construction of two lines of a natural gas pipeline with an annual capacity of up to 55 billion cubic meters, running from the Russian shore to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Russian gas giant Gazprom builds the pipeline together with Germany’s Uniper and Wintershall Dea, Royal Dutch Shell, Austria’s OMV, and France’s Engie.

Gazprom remains the sole shareholder of the project and will invest 4.75 billion euros, while the European partners agreed to bear 50% of the project costs, or 950 million euros each. In 2020, OMV and Shell said that they finished their investments into the project, and OMV pointed out that it invested 730 million euros.
